I was thinking that we should do a YHOP album! Cause we have like $40 to put towards it!! Does anyone have any ideas? Please post your comments below!!:)
To be completely honest, I don't think it would work out all too well.
First off, there's the giant amount of legal issues we would have to go through to actually license the worship songs for commercial usage (we can apply for a Compulsory License, but we would not only have to contact each publisher separately, but also pay royalties to said publishers once the CD is sold).
Secondly, we don't really have the skill needed to entirely pull off an actual mass recording yet, specifically one that people would actually want to listen to. Covers need to add something that the original doesn't have, be it an instrumental take (i.e. ForOrchestra for orchestral remixes of pop music) or vocal (i.e. Cimorelli for multiple harmonic remixes of pop music), neither of which we can actively pull off at the moment.
Thirdly, we really have no active fanbase at the moment, and outside of a few select people, no one really knows who we are. The end amount wouldn't be worth the trouble and effort needed to get us there. At least, not at our current standing.
The first thing, our church has the license to record and play songs made by bands that have copyrights on them. Second, it doesn't matter about skill, its the first album, it would be a band starter and could be made into a demo for record companys. Third, my church tours with Aquire The Fire and we could endorse the CD and sell it at our book stands. I can talk to Nathan about it and our church might have a few connections with some people that can help. I will see what I can do.
I'm pretty sure you're talking about a CCLI license, which allows usage of worship songs to be sung in a public service. Most worship song publishers do opt in for that, as that is the primary purpose of the song. That does not, however, allow the song to be used for commercial use in the form of a cover, especially in a cover that would be sold.
As far as skill goes, that is extremely necessary when it comes to recording. We are an small band in a small town with little to no recognition. Our purpose isn't the same as normal bands, and YHOP exists purely so that we can not only grow both skillfully and spiritually, but so we can eventually join the XHOP team and/or worship teams when we are older.
What I'm getting at is that if we were to sell a CD, we would need a very good first impression. We also don't bring anything new to the table. All that we have that's different is kid's voices, and I don't want this to be Kidz Bop: House of Prayer Edition.
I appreciate the sentiment and your offer to help, but the fact stands that this just isn't a good idea right now. When we do get more proficient in doing what we do, then we'll consider it a viable option. We'll save the money so that when we can actually record, we can do it professionally and with everyone at the zenith of their proficiency with whatever they do.
Uhhh guys....lol...PERSONALY, I really don't think we have the skill, let alone TIME for this kind of thing!! Im pretty busy with swimming and school as it is..!!! I don't think I would b able to very involved in this...sorry!
I know how to record audio, edit audio, and publish audio onto a CD. I can talk to Nathan and see if I can help you out and record it at our church. I would volunteer my time, the things needed are (1) CDs (2) CD sticker/labels (can get for cheap online) (3) CD cases. I also have software on my computer to design custom labels for the CDs. If anyone want anymore info on what I can to do help then email me, krisloury@gmail.com it might be a while before i can respond because the internet at our house is shut off.
Personally, if somehow you guys could make a CD, I would totally encourage you to do it! You sounded so good together last night! Sure, you should pray about it, but you guys are so talented. God gave you a gift!
